Chum Ability Breakdown
Chomper
Chomper is Chum’s adorable yet dangerous pet drone in FragPunk. Once deployed, Chomper roams the map biting enemies. Although destructible, Chomper becomes far more useful when paired with one of Chum’s two baits. This flexibility allows for reactive and aggressive plays. Feed Chomper Explosive Bait to turn him into a walking bomb or Smoking Bait to turn him into a mobile smoke generator. Timing is everything here.
Explosive Bait
Forget the fish. This bait is your main weapon. Each Explosive Bait deals 70 damage on trigger, and you get multiple per round. Use it solo or feed it to Chomper. It sticks to walls, explodes on contact, and sets up instant kills when stacked. On attack, you can throw it aggressively during fights. On defense, place it just as enemies breach a choke.
Smoking Bait
This bait creates a strong smoke area and can be thrown or given to Chomper. The smoke is thick and lingers longer than expected. On offense, use it to block sniper sightlines or cover a plant. On defense, use it for confusing enemy pushes or masking a retreat. Feeding it to Chomper creates a rolling wall of smoke, and holding fire lets you steer him.

Chum Playstyle Guide

Aggressive Frag Trapping
This method turns Chum into a frontline Lancer. You run ahead, scout corners, then place traps quickly before engaging. Throw an Explosive Bait near common entry points. Let enemies walk into the trap mid-fight. Combine that with a smoke to create instant confusion. This method wins gunfights by reducing HP before enemies can shoot.
Baited Trapping for Ambushes
Perfect for tight corridors. Let enemies chase you through a narrow hallway. Drop Explosive Baits behind you. They’ll trigger as enemies run in. This also works if you place a bait, smoke the path, then wait. They can’t see the mine until it’s too late. Use this when defending a converter or locking a flank.
Chomper Offense
Use Chomper offensively by deploying him with Explosive Bait. He’ll chase and explode on the first target. Even if you die, Chomper often gets the kill. It’s great for breaking camping positions or clearing an entryway. You can also use him like a martyrdom grenade by triggering him right before a push.
Chomper for Site Pushes
Use Smoking Bait with Chomper to create a moving wall of cover. Push alongside him and shoot through the chaos. It throws off enemy aim and gives your team cover to move in. Great for rotating or site entry plays where you know defenders are watching long sightlines.
Expert Tips to Win With Chum
- Always rotate your bait usage. Don’t spam one type.
- Place traps during a fight, not before. Mines get destroyed easily when idle.
- Use Chomper to distract sentries and draw fire before peeking.
- Throw mines around corners and peek from another angle.
- Don’t rely on Chomper alone. Your baits win games.
If you want to test his real potential, you need Ranked Mode, and fast. The FragPunk Ranked Unlock Boost skips the slow XP grind and gets you to Level 30 in just a few hours. Now you can run Chomper plays, bait-swap rotations, and mid-fight traps in competitive lobbies where they actually matter.
Once you’ve mastered Chum’s mind games, there’s no reason to wait to put them into ranked action.
