Battlefield 6 Crossplay, Platform Only Queues, and PC3 min read

A while ago, EA clarified any misunderstandings about Battlefield 6’s crossplay. A previous claim from a developer that there may be a “console-only crossplay” mode, in which Xbox and PlayStation players could match while PC players couldn’t, has been denied. 

However, EA confirms that the game will not include a console-only crossplay mode and that the crossplay settings function varies based on whether you’re on a PC or a console. Here is how it works:

What the crossplay toggle does (Console vs PC)

Players have the choice to either enable or disable crossplay in-game on the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S consoles.

• Matching system: It will first attempt to connect you with other console gamers (such as a PS5 with an Xbox) when crossplay is activated. It will then bring in players with PCs to fill up the remaining spots if there aren’t enough players.

• Players will only be matched with gamers who are on the same platform while crossplay is disabled. In simple terms, an Xbox player matches with an Xbox, while a PS5 player matches solely with other PS5 players. 
• Additionally, if crossplay is turned off, PS5 gamers will not be partnered with Xbox players.
• On PC: There is no way for PC gamers to turn off cross-play with console players; it is always enabled.

Correction of Earlier Misunderstanding

A “console-only crossplay” option that would allow PS5 and Xbox gamers to play together without a PC was previously suggested in multiple remarks. EA acknowledged that it was misleading. Players can only play on their own console platform when crossplay is disabled. Xbox will match Xbox, while PS5 will match PS5.​

Why does this matter?

The higher chances of cheating on PCs are one of the reasons why console players often want to avoid playing with PC players. EA points out that PC has updated anti-cheat safeguards (such as secure-boot and specialized monitoring) to help with this problem.
