EA Sports FC 26 Update 1.0.4 Smooths Many Gameplay Aspects3 min read

Update 1.0.4 for EA Sports FC 26 has just been released by Electronic Arts. It features several focused fixes meant to even out known gameplay glitches while bringing important mechanics back into balance.
Improvements for finesse shot behavior, enhanced tackling reliability (especially for specific PlayStyles), and changes to goalie movement and reaction make up some of the most lauded upgrades.
Tackling issues – more consistent defense
In this update, tackling mechanisms are one of the most important changes. Previously, players with specific PlayStyles: such as the “Bruiser” archetype, had occasional failures all while trying aggressive or violent tackles. In some situations, the player might be unable to perform a tackle even if one was input.Â

A defensive posture change that was added in version 1.0.2 has also been reversed by EA, but only in Authentic Gameplay mode. Since Competitive mode is unchanged, the players in online or ranked arenas will notice only minor changes to maintain balance.
Finesse and trivial shot corrections
In some situations, the player’s skill shots, in which they curl the ball toward the keeper or defenders, has been acting oddly. In the end, some projectiles may curve in the opposite direction. The curvature now matches to the player’s input once the update fixes that bug.

Furthermore, there was an accidental action where the player meant a finesse shot, but occasionally a trivela shot (curved with the outside of the boot) would fire instead. Now that misfire has been fixed. Creative shooting tactics become less gimmicky and safer with these changes.
Goalkeeper & defensive animation polish
The latest version also focused on defensive animations and goalkeeper behavior. At times, block and save animations, such as dive transitions or leg-out blocks, ended too soon, which made goalie seem irregular.

Gamers were occasionally forced to exit block postures or animations before the action had finished entirely on the defensive side. By lowering these instances, FC 26 update 1.0.4 improves defensive integrity.
What it means for players
The changes made in 1.0.4 may benefit experienced players who feel let down by strange shot behavior and inconsistent tackling. There will be less “missing” input times for tackling defenders, whereas creative players who depend on speed or curve shots will find more predictability.

That being stated, Competitive is not affected by the move to return defensive positioning, which has limitations to Authentic Gameplay. Thus, players that are looking for important online matches are unable to notice major shifts in balance or meta. Instead of completely redesigning the game’s basic mechanisms, the changes mainly restore responsiveness and polish.
