Palworld Base Location Guide: What Makes a Strong Base Spot

When picking a Palworld base location, strategy is key. For a main base, look for a big open space. Ideally one that has enough room for storage, crafting stations and other vital buildings. For a resource outpost, place it close to where you’re low on supplies.

If you need materials for your next base upgrade, then look at the Palworld Materials and check the resources for building and expanding your base.

What Makes a Good Palworld Base Location?

Find an area which is clear of any obstacles. You don’t want to be worrying about Pals getting stuck on the way.

Rocks, slopes and tight spots will mess things up and make it hard to get Pals from one end of the base to the other. A perfect-looking base spot isn’t worth it if Pals are having to climb.

Check the Build Area Before Committing

Before you start building, look at the area that Palbox will cover. Make sure you’re not going to be building into a slope or over a pond. Just because a resource is right next door doesn’t mean you can build a base. Check that it’s actually within base boundaries.

Balance Resource Access, Travel and Safety

When choosing your first base spot, convenience is key. Pick somewhere close to other bases or at least to the resources you need. Later, you can always set up a few extra bases to cut down on travel time.

Fast travel might save time, but it won’t solve every problem with where you’re building. Difficult terrain can still slow you down, and the risk of a raid is always there, even if you are on a cliff or an island.

Check Base Slots and Server Settings

The base counts are going to be dictated by whatever server settings you’re using, so don’t try to come up with a one-size-fits-all answer. Instead, check the settings and see what number you’re working with. Note down the number, because you will need it later. For surrounding base changes, see the Palworld v1.0.3 patch breakdown.

Move Only After the New Site Passes the Test

Here’s what you need to do:

  • Set up your new base if you’ve got a spare slot.
  • Move your gear over to the new base.
  • Get key workstations and storage areas rebuilt.
  • Get pals moved over and check that they’re working as normal.
  • Once everything is up and running at the new base, you can finally get rid of the old one

Frequently Asked Questions

Does changing server raid settings make every base equally safe?

No, it doesn’t. Changing settings changes one risk, but there’s still plenty of others to contend with.

Should a beginner copy a late-game resource base?

No, you should be looking at a base that fits your current needs and what you can actually build at this point in the game.

Can multiplayer players use the same base limit as solo players?

Not always; the host’s server settings will dictate the base limit.

When looking for a new base, think about what you need right now: room to move around, a place to get to grips with your pals and the work they need to do. Then test the waters. Check that key areas like the Palbox, key workstations, storage and travel routes are all up and running.
