The UAV is a 500-Score Multiplayer streak in Black Ops 7 that reveals enemy positions through periodic minimap sweeps. It gives the whole team valuable information, but it does not provide constant live tracking or automatically reveal every player.
Ghost, Counter-UAV, Vigilance, suppressors, Overclocks, and anti-streak equipment all interact with the radar differently. Understanding those differences helps you use each UAV ping without chasing outdated information.
How UAV Works in BO7
The UAV becomes available at Player Level 11 and costs 500 Score before an Overclock changes its requirement.
Once activated, it scans the map and periodically displays eligible enemies as red dots. Each dot represents the player’s position at the moment of that sweep.
| UAV Detail | Current BO7 Information |
|---|---|
| Type | Team-wide Scorestreak |
| Base cost | 500 Score |
| Unlock | Player Level 11 |
| Radar behavior | Periodic enemy-location sweeps |
| Directional arrows | Not provided by the standard UAV |
| Main perk counter | Ghost under qualifying conditions |
| Main active counters | Launcher, Black Hat, Counter-UAV |
| Overclock 1 | Reduces the required score |
| Overclock 2 | Adds a flare and bullet resistance |
The official BO7 Scorestreak and perk briefing lists the UAV’s current score, unlock requirement, and both Overclock options.

BO7 UAV Radar Sweeps Explained
A standard UAV updates enemy locations through separate sweeps rather than tracking them continuously.
That means a red dot is already historical information by the time you react. The enemy may have:
- Continued along the same route
- Entered a nearby room
- Changed elevation
- Reversed direction
- Stopped to hold an angle
- Moved behind your team
Therefore, pre-aim the likely exit or next piece of cover instead of sprinting directly toward the dot.
Official information does not promise one permanent duration or sweep interval across every playlist and future balance update. Watch the active streak indicator and treat every UAV as a temporary information window.
UAV Sweeps vs. Unsuppressed Gunfire
UAV detection and normal gunfire detection are separate minimap systems.
UAV Sweep
A UAV sweep reveals eligible enemy positions whether they fired or not. Ghost provides conditional protection from those sweeps.
Unsuppressed Gunfire
Firing an unsuppressed weapon can create a normal minimap red dot. This can happen independently of a UAV.
Suppressed Gunfire
A suppressor prevents the standard firing reveal. However, it does not automatically hide the player from UAV sweeps.
For full stealth against both systems, a player generally needs:
- A suppressor to prevent the firing ping
- Ghost to counter UAV and Scout Pulse while meeting its activity requirement
Do not assume that a suppressed weapon alone makes you invisible whenever an enemy UAV is active.
How Enemy UAV Detects You
Without active Ghost protection, a UAV can reveal you during its normal sweeps.
These actions do not independently hide you:
- Crouching
- Walking slowly
- Remaining silent
- Standing still
- Using Ninja
- Equipping a suppressor
- Avoiding gunfire
Walking or crouching may help you approach quietly, but the stance itself does not counter radar.
Standing still is especially risky when using Ghost because the perk only protects you while you are moving, planting, defusing, or controlling a Scorestreak.
How Ghost Works Against UAVs
Ghost unlocks at Player Level 26 and protects against Scout Pulse and UAV while you are:
- Moving
- Planting an objective
- Defusing an objective
- Controlling a Scorestreak
It does not provide unconditional invisibility while camping in one place.
Ghost also does not replace a suppressor. The perk handles UAV and Scout Pulse detection, while the suppressor handles the standard gunfire reveal.
If you stop moving during a UAV sweep, assume the enemy may receive your location.
What Vigilance Does
Vigilance is available immediately as a Recon perk.
It provides two important benefits:
- A HUD warning appears when you show on hostile minimaps.
- You become immune to Counter-UAV and Scrambler minimap interference.
Vigilance does not make you invisible to an enemy UAV. Use Ghost for conditional UAV protection.
The two perks can work together: Ghost helps prevent eligible radar detection, while Vigilance warns you when another system reveals your position and keeps your own minimap usable during enemy disruption.
Cold-Blooded and Ninja Do Not Counter UAV
Cold-Blooded protects against AI targeting, thermal optics, and highlighting from player-controlled Scorestreaks. It is not the standard UAV counter.
Ninja reduces movement sound. It does not block a radar sweep.
Use these perks for their intended roles rather than treating every Recon perk as a UAV counter.
UAV Overclocks
Using Scorestreaks earns progress toward two selectable Overclocks.
Lower Score Cost
This option makes the UAV easier to earn. It works well for objective players and aggressive classes that generate frequent assists, captures, and eliminations.
Flare and Bullet Resistance
This option counters the first lock-on missile with a flare and increases resistance to bullets.
Choose it when enemy teams regularly destroy your streaks before they produce useful information.
The durability Overclock does not make the UAV indestructible. Launchers, sustained gunfire, Black Hat, and other anti-streak tools can still remove it.
How to Counter an Enemy UAV
Equip Ghost and Keep Moving
Ghost is the most direct passive counter. Continue moving or perform an eligible objective action when the sweep occurs.
Shoot It Down
Look into the sky after the enemy announces a UAV. Lock-on launchers and weapons designed for Scorestreak damage can destroy it.
Engineer helps identify enemy Scorestreaks through walls and provides target information when you aim at them.
Use Black Hat
Black Hat targets enemy electronics and Scorestreaks. Following the Season 4 update, it needs only one charge to destroy a UAV or Counter-UAV.
This makes it one of the fastest current counters when you do not want to carry a launcher.
Call a Counter-UAV
The Counter-UAV costs 600 Score and scrambles every opposing minimap.
It does not physically destroy the enemy UAV. Instead, it prevents the opposing team from reading its map normally while the disruption remains active.
Players with Vigilance remain immune to that scramble.
Use Interceptors or EMP Systems
Interceptors target enemy flying Scorestreaks, while EMP Systems destroys hostile electronics, equipment, and vehicles.
These cost much more score than a basic UAV, so save them for matches where the enemy team also controls stronger streaks.
Counter-UAV vs. Scrambler
These tools both interfere with minimaps, but they work differently.
| Counter | How It Works |
|---|---|
| Counter-UAV | Scrambles all enemy minimaps |
| Scrambler | Disrupts enemy minimaps and electronics within a local radius |
| Vigilance | Provides immunity to both Counter-UAV and Scrambler |
| Black Hat | Can destroy UAVs and Counter-UAVs |
| Ghost | Counters UAV and Scout Pulse under qualifying conditions |
Scrambler can also use an Overclock that periodically reveals nearby enemies who lack Ghost or Vigilance.
The Counter-UAV remains better for team-wide disruption, while Scrambler suits objective rooms and controlled areas.
UAV vs. Scout Pulse and HARP
These three streaks provide different levels of intelligence.
| Streak | Base Score | Radar Information |
|---|---|---|
| Scout Pulse | 350 | One nearby radar ping for the user |
| UAV | 500 | Periodic team-wide enemy-location sweeps |
| HARP | 1,400 | Real-time enemy positions and directions |
Scout Pulse offers cheaper personal information but has limited reach. One Overclock changes its red dots into directional arrows.
UAV provides wider team support but does not normally show real-time facing direction.
HARP is the strongest radar streak. It tracks position and direction in real time rather than showing separate snapshots.
Since Season 2, a player with the active Scout Combat Specialty buff appears as a standard red dot on enemy HARP instead of becoming completely hidden from it.
The series-wide UAV history offers additional context on how radar streaks worked in earlier Call of Duty games.
Should Teammates Stack UAVs?
Back-to-back UAV calls can extend the period during which the team receives radar information. However, avoid activating several ordinary UAVs at exactly the same moment without a reason.
A better sequence is:
- Call the first UAV before a push or rotation.
- Use its sweeps to take space.
- Let a teammate call the next one as the first streak ends or gets destroyed.
- Save another for the next objective transition.
Overlapping UAVs do not provide the same real-time directional information as HARP. Treat HARP as its own separate high-cost streak.
Best Times to Call a UAV
Before a Hardpoint Rotation
Activate it while the team moves toward the next hill. The radar can reveal defenders, early rotations, and open flank routes.
During a Domination Retake
Use it before challenging a lost flag. Look for isolated defenders rather than forcing the most crowded route.
After a Spawn Change
A UAV can confirm which side enemies now occupy after both teams push through the original spawn areas.
During Search and Destroy
Wait until the opening routes begin to develop. An immediate call may provide information, but activating it after players spread out can reveal a more useful flank or bomb rotation.
While Defending an Objective
Use the sweeps to identify which entrance needs attention. Do not abandon the objective simply because one red dot appears elsewhere.
Using UAV Information Correctly
Read the Dot as a Snapshot
An ordinary UAV red dot gives position, not intention. It does not prove that the enemy is still there or looking toward you.
Check Elevation
A dot can represent someone above or below you. Use map knowledge and audio before entering stairs, rooftops, tunnels, or lower floors.
Compare Enemy and Friendly Positions
Teammates help define the controlled side of the map. Enemy dots outside that area can reveal likely flanks or spawn pressure.
Do Not Chase Every Ping
Running toward every red dot can pull you away from objectives and into predictable traps.
Expect Ghost Users
A map showing four enemies does not prove the other two are dead or inactive. They may use Ghost, move outside the current information window, or take an unobserved lane.
Using UAVs Aggressively
An aggressive UAV call works best when your team can act on the information immediately.
- Push isolated enemies together
- Hold exits instead of chasing dots
- Cut off reinforcements
- Pre-aim likely routes
- Watch for a developing spawn flip
- Use suppressors to avoid giving away your own firing position
The goal is not simply to find the nearest red dot. It is to create a fight where your team holds the positional advantage.
Using UAVs Defensively
Defensive calls work well when:
- Protecting a Hardpoint
- Defending two Domination flags
- Watching an unguarded Search and Destroy route
- Recovering after several teammates die
- Checking for an enemy flank
- Rebuilding map control after spawning
Use each sweep to assign coverage. If two teammates already watch one entrance, move toward the open route instead of stacking the same angle.

UAV Mechanics and Other BO7 Modes
The UAV mechanics in this article apply to standard BO7 Multiplayer. Zombies uses different maps, HUD behavior, upgrades, and challenge modifiers.
Players exploring those restrictions can review the Zombies Cursed Mode Relic requirements separately.
UAV assists and radar awareness may help with Multiplayer performance, but they do not automatically complete undisclosed challenge conditions. The hidden Multiplayer and mode challenges list those requirements separately.
Likewise, earning UAVs does not alter headshot or mastery-camo objectives. The Multiplayer mastery-camo requirements explain why Singularity, rather than Dark Matter, is BO7’s final standard Multiplayer mastery reward.
BO7 UAV Mechanics — Final Thoughts
The standard BO7 UAV is a 500-Score team streak that reveals eligible enemies through periodic minimap sweeps. Each dot is a snapshot, so use it to predict routes and control space rather than chasing an old position.
Ghost is the true conditional UAV counter, while suppressors prevent normal gunfire pings. Vigilance protects your minimap from Counter-UAV and Scrambler interference, and Black Hat now offers a fast active counter. Once those interactions become clear, UAV timing becomes far more useful for rotations, objective control, flank protection, and spawn awareness.

BO7 UAV Mechanics FAQs
How much score does a UAV cost in Black Ops 7?
A standard UAV costs 500 Score and unlocks at Player Level 11. One of its two Overclocks reduces the score requirement.
Does a UAV show enemies in real time?
No. A normal UAV reveals enemy positions through periodic sweeps. HARP is the streak that provides real-time position and direction information.
Does a suppressor hide you from a UAV?
No. A suppressor prevents the standard firing ping, but it does not independently block UAV sweeps. Use Ghost and remain active for conditional UAV protection.
Does Ghost work while standing still?
No. Ghost protects against UAV and Scout Pulse while moving, planting, defusing, or controlling a Scorestreak. A stationary player can appear during a sweep.
Does crouch-walking keep you off UAV radar?
Crouch-walking does not independently counter a UAV. It only helps radar protection when Ghost is equipped and its movement condition remains active.
What is the fastest way to destroy a UAV?
A launcher can shoot it down, while the Season 4 version of Black Hat destroys a UAV or Counter-UAV with one charge. Sustained weapon fire can also damage the streak.
What does Vigilance do against UAVs?
Vigilance warns you whenever you appear on hostile minimaps and gives immunity to Counter-UAV and Scrambler interference. It does not hide you from a normal UAV.
Do multiple UAVs turn into a HARP?
No. HARP remains a separate 1,400-Score streak that tracks enemy positions and directions in real time. Coordinated UAV calls mainly provide longer periods of ordinary sweep coverage.
